Fire needs a good balance of 3 things - fuel (gases from the firewood), oxygen, and an ignition source (the spark)

When they are at a perfect ratio and all the gas coming out of the timber as it is heated up can be mixed properly with oxygen and has an ignition source, you have a clean and efficient combustion.

The fire pit has an elevated base and air intakes at the bottom and outlets at the top, allowing cooler air to super heat through the double-walled construction, and be let in at the top of the fire. This creates a secondary burn that consumes the unburnt gasses (smoke) and produces superior heat for a more comfortable and pleasant outdoor atmosphere.

In a traditional fire pit - the excess gasses just get blown away or float away from the fire with the air currents created by the hot air - this means they never get into the presence of adequate oxygen and ignition and it ends up in your face and hair and clothes - making you move around constantly to get away from the smoke!

This smokeless fire pit can literally be safe for use on a timber deck - this is due to the thermal break and the way the Heat Shield is designed and the fact it creates an extra safety barrier for any embers to land. It is still the users responsibility however to ensure it is used responsibly and have a means of extinguishing the flame handy at all times when using this on or around combustible materials.

We also recommend using the Heat Shield if you are placing the fire pit on any decorative surface, or hard tiled surface as the heat from the fire pit can occasionally cause expansion in materials such as porcelain or concrete causing it to crack in extreme cases.

Also great if you are putting it down on the grass as it creates a clean edge to trim/mow against rather than a burnt dead patch around the outside where the fire is...

KiwiFire pits smokeless fire pits are shipped in their 'black' state which has the scale on it from the steel mill - this will rust through to an established patina in about 6 months (in most conditions) that will look amazing for years to come!

The removeable fire grate makes it very easy to support kindling and aerate the fire while getting started and running, but it also makes cleaning the ash out a breeze!

You can simply take it out of the way so you can get a shovel or scoop in there and simply empty the ash into the garden (once completely cooled) or a rubbish bag/bucket to empty into the bin!
